Professor Ashok Kumar Prasad, also widely known as Professor A.K. Prasad, was a distinguished figure in the field of chemistry, particularly revered for his significant contributions to the academic and research community at Delhi University. With an illustrious career spanning decades, his profound knowledge and numerous achievements in bioorganic chemistry, natural product synthesis, and bioactive compounds have left an indelible mark on the global scientific landscape.

Early Life and Education

Born with an innate curiosity for science, Professor Ashok Kumar Prasad's passion for chemistry began at an early age. He pursued his higher education with diligence and completed his PhD at the prestigious University of Delhi in 1990. His doctoral research, under the guidance of the renowned Professor A. C. Jain, Cantab., D.Sc., a Bhatnagar Awardee, focused on the synthesis of bioactive polyphenolic natural products. In September 2001, Professor Ashok Kumar Prasad returned to India to join the Department of Chemistry at Delhi University as a Reader. By June 2009, he was appointed as a full Professor, a testament to his exceptional academic contributions and leadership in the field of chemistry.

His research primarily focused on the synthesis of sugar-PEG-based amphiphiles as novel carrier agents, modified nucleoside monomers for therapeutic oligonucleotide synthesis, biotransformations, and bioactive heterocyclic compounds. His pioneering work in these areas contributed to advancements in both theoretical and applied chemistry, earning him widespread recognition.
